Domestic Violence Act U.P. Campaign 2007

A huge campaign for the implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (DV Act) 2005 will take place in Uttar Pradesh, from 25 November- International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to 10 December- International Human Rights Day, and will be carried out in 41 districts of the state.

The main objectives of the campaign are:

-to create awareness about DV Act 2005 at a larger level
-to make the government accountable for implementing this Law
-to create awareness and dialogue about DV Act 2005 at the district level

5 December
The CMO of Banda attended an Ab to Jaago meeting attended by people from 22 villages.

4 December
Seminars in two colleges were each attended by approximately 200 students.

3 December
Community Meetings were held and material on the Ab to Jaago Campaign was distributed.

1 December
Gram Pradhan was the Chief Guest at a community meeting today.

29 November
A community meeting was done where posters were displayed and slogans were written on walls.

28 November
A candle march was held on the streets, and a Nukkar Natak received local media coverage.

27 November
A rally was held at which posters and stickers were distributed and posted on walls.

26 November
A group of 80 people participated in a candle march organized by UPVAN. In addition, a district level press confernece was widely attended by representatives from the electronic and print media.
