Domestic Violence Act U.P. Campaign 2007

A huge campaign for the implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (DV Act) 2005 will take place in Uttar Pradesh, from 25 November- International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to 10 December- International Human Rights Day, and will be carried out in 41 districts of the state.

The main objectives of the campaign are:

-to create awareness about DV Act 2005 at a larger level
-to make the government accountable for implementing this Law
-to create awareness and dialogue about DV Act 2005 at the district level

7 December
A District Dialogue was hed that was attended by Social Activists, and a Talk Show on the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence, 2005 was covered by Electronic Media.

5 December A meeting was organized with Doctors & a Nukkar Natak was done. 2 December The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was discussed during a parent teacher meeting, and relevant information and material was given out. 1 December About 150 people viewed a Play on Domestic Violence. 30 November To show support for the DV Act, 500 people attended a Signature Campaign. 29 November A community dialogue was held and materials were distributed. 28 November A candle march was held and posters and stickers were stuck on walls to raise awareness of the DV Act 2005. 23 November A Press Conference was attended by 36 media representatives and a poster was released to the public at the event. A meeting was held to distribute materal material and to discuss the planned December 8 “Men’s Rally.”
