Domestic Violence Act U.P. Campaign 2007

A huge campaign for the implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (DV Act) 2005 will take place in Uttar Pradesh, from 25 November- International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to 10 December- International Human Rights Day, and will be carried out in 41 districts of the state.

The main objectives of the campaign are:

-to create awareness about DV Act 2005 at a larger level
-to make the government accountable for implementing this Law
-to create awareness and dialogue about DV Act 2005 at the district level

8 December
In Pratapgarh, teachers and students organized meetings in several villages.

7 December
In Pratapgarh, Campaign Partners went from house to house to discuss the DV Act.

4 December
The campaign partners of Pratabgarh went house to house in 20 villages to distribute material on Ab To Jaago Campaign.

3 December
The people of Pratapgharh attended a Cultural Programme that was organized by the Campaign Partners of the area. The event was attended by the local NGO Partners and others.

2 December
Teachers and students participated in a college programme on the DV Act 2005. A community meeting was also held.

1 December
Houses on 11 blocks volunteered to distribute materials to the community about the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005

29 November
Community meeting was held where the principle guest was the Gram Pradhan, and community members participated in wall writing activities.

28 November
A candle march was held and the Secretary of the Jila Saksharta Samiti attended as the chief guest.

27 November
A discussion on domestic violence was attended by 50 people.

26 November
In 8 different locations in Pratap Gargh, wall painting was done by 8 local NGOs. These NGOs have also initiated a signature campaign in support of the Ab To Jaago Campaign.
