Domestic Violence Act U.P. Campaign 2007

A huge campaign for the implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (DV Act) 2005 will take place in Uttar Pradesh, from 25 November- International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to 10 December- International Human Rights Day, and will be carried out in 41 districts of the state.

The main objectives of the campaign are:

-to create awareness about DV Act 2005 at a larger level
-to make the government accountable for implementing this Law
-to create awareness and dialogue about DV Act 2005 at the district level

8 December
In Gazipur, a discussion about the personal problems caused by violence against women was held, followed by a Candle March.

6 December
A Rally was held in Gazipur that was followed by a seminar and debate attended by 200 people.

4 December
A community meeting was held.

3 December
A Signature Campaign was initiated, and a Rally was held in which more that 150 people participated.

28 November

A candle march was held, as was a community dialogue. The Pradhan attended the dialogue as the chief guest.

27 November

A district level meeting was was attended by 105 people, as well as many representatives from the electronic and print media.
