Domestic Violence Act U.P. Campaign 2007

A huge campaign for the implementation of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act (DV Act) 2005 will take place in Uttar Pradesh, from 25 November- International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women to 10 December- International Human Rights Day, and will be carried out in 41 districts of the state.

The main objectives of the campaign are:

-to create awareness about DV Act 2005 at a larger level
-to make the government accountable for implementing this Law
-to create awareness and dialogue about DV Act 2005 at the district level

UPDATES
8 December
In Chandoli, over 500 students and teachers participated in a discussion about the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and collected signatures on dhoti in support of the Act.

5 December
A discussion was organized with approximately 300 people., where women came forward with their personal cases of Domestic Violence.

4 December
A school programme was attended by 700 girl students and 15 Teachers.

3 December
In two villages, Community Meetings were held where material on the Ab to Jaago Campaign was also distributed.

2 December
A community meeting was held at which the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 was explained and discussed.

1 December
Approximately 50 people were in attendance at the community meeting, where the Gram Pradhan of the area participated as the Chief Guest.

30 November
A comminity meeting was held.

29 November
A community dialogue was held and materials were distributed.

28 November
People came together for a discussion on the DV Act 2005, and material was distributed. A signature campaign was also launched.
